The Yellow Dog Project

The Yellow Dog Project

August 23, 2014

Every day I take Winnie for a walk at the park and I always look around for kids or other people who sometimes approach and try to pet her without asking. Kids come running towards Winnie because they just want to play. She is a sweet dog but we rescued her from an abusive home and even if she is now a happy dog, something inside still makes her fearful of people. She never bites anyone, but I want to prevent that to happen.

That's why I found the Yellow Dog Project so great. It is a global movement for parents of dogs who need space. "Yellow Dogs are dogs who need space - they are not necessarily aggressive dogs but more often are dogs who have issues of fear; pain from recent surgery; are a rescue or shelter dog who has not yet had sufficient training or mastered obedience; are in training for work or service; are in service; or other reasons specific to the dog."

This movement wants to teach people the best way to approach. You need to always ask the owner if you can pet the dog. You can find resources for training or where to buy gear on this link. You can also just get a yellow ribbon and tie it to your dog's leash.

This movement is growing, but many people doesn't know about it yet. Spread the word with your family and friends! and if you have a dog who needs more space… this is a great idea!

Peanut Snack Sandwiches

Foodie Thursday: Peanut Snack Sandwiches

August 21, 2014

Yesterday I was reading at one of my favorite blogs, Sweet Paul, and looking at all the delicious recipes that make my mouth water, I found a gourmet treat that I will cook for my dog Winnie. I am sure she will love this and your dog too! This is the recipe directly from Sweet Paul's blog:

Makes about 20 treats - 2 tablespoons canola oil - 1⁄2 cup peanut butter (all-natural or organic) - 1 cup water - 1 1⁄2 cups whole wheat flour - 1 1⁄2 cups white flour - peanut butter, for serving

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl combine canola oil, peanut butter and water.
  3. Add both types of flour, and work the dough together.
  4. Wrap in plastic and leave it for around 30 minutes.
  5. Knead dough into a firm ball and roll to 1⁄4 inch thickness.
  6. Use a small glass or cookie cutter and cut out small circles.
  7. Place on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
  8. Sprinkle with peanuts, and press them lightly into mixture.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
  10. Cool on a wire rack.
  11. Store in a jar with a tight lid.
  12. When your dog has been good, sandwich a little peanut butter between two cookies and serve.

Sounds delicious! I think I am going to try one too. If you want to get more recipes for your dog, visit Sweet Paul's blog, you will love it!

10 Things I Love about Winnie

August 20, 2014

This post was really difficult to write! How can I choose only 10 things I love about Winnie?
I could write many, many more… but 10 is a good number for this blog.

  1. I love when Winnie wakes me up and ask me to go out with those beautiful and sweet eyes, how could I say no even on a Sunday at 6 a.m.?
  2. I love to have Winnie under my desk when I am working and I find inspiration just by watching her so relaxed.
  3. I love when Winnie barks at the garbage truck in the morning, I know she is protecting our home from strangers!
  4. I love Winnie's face when I bring home a new toy and before I open the bag, she knows there is something special for her inside the package!
  5. I love to hug her when she jumps to my bed and she could stay there for hours…
  6. I love when she wags her tail and gives me kisses, lots of kisses!
  7. I love to walk her at the park where she loves to smell the flowers, the grass and some trees here and there where other furry friends "wrote" a message.
  8. I love when she gets so excited at feeding time, jumping and spinning at 360 degrees.
  9. I love how she listens to me when I talk to her, I know she understands...
  10. I LOVE to have her in my life. She is part of the family. We are her pack. I am so blessed!

Pet Sitting 16 Paws

August 17, 2014

Last week I went to a friend's home to watch her dogs. Pet sitting is really fun and keeps you in a happy mood. Dogs are like kids and they make you feel young and energized!

My friend Norma has 4 dogs. When I met her she had only Cinnamon and Reina but some weeks ago she rescued Leo and Sandy. They were alone on the street. Leo was in bad shape and Sandy was just a puppy with no one around to take care of her.

Now she has 4 happy dogs that get along really well. These some of the photos I shoot while pet sitting the little angels.

I will be sharing photos, what she likes, what she does, or anything "Winnie related". A space to write how sweet she is… after all, it's all about the dogs!

Enjoy the pictures and write something about your dog on the comments below.

Flower Power for Pit Bulls

August 9, 2014

Every time I go to the park or the beach I see some beautiful Pit Bull dogs. They are sweet and deserving of love like any other dog. Many organizations and people fight to change the perception that they are dangerous by nature.

This is the case of French photographer Sophie Gamand who created a series of photographs named "Flower Power, Pit Bulls of the Revolution" to show the dogs in a different light.

"This project started as an excuse for me to discover more about pit bulls. Like many people, I admittedly had prejudices against them. But as an active volunteer with many rescue groups, I often came in contact with pit bulls and was slowly warming up to their sweet nature. I decided to confront my apprehensions and explore their soft side in a visual way."

Sophie portrayed them like hippies from a fairy-tale character, feminine and dreamy. To do that, she approached some rescue groups that happily collaborated with the project.
