Finding my Voice and my Pack

September 29, 2015

Hello pet lovers! How is your week going so far? Mine is great! Today after some hectic days I am more focused and doing what I need to do. Some times it is difficult to concentrate on all the activities you have listed in a day. You want spread the word about your business and how you can help others succeed too, but there is an unknown number of ways to do it… Where to start? It is like chasing squirrels! and end going no where.

On days like that, I take a moment to breath and go for a walk with my dog to smell the flowers, that really makes my day to slow down and nothing is better than sitting at the park for a brainstorm with your dog. Yes, I ask Winnie what does she think about an idea and she barks or tilt her head on approval and excitement but some times she just says “this is not what you should be doing, woof!”.

Do you feel this way some times? Like you need a road map that is closer to who you are and what you want? This is the reason for this post. I want to share with you an awesome bootcamp that I will attend with a great person, April Bowles. I watched many of her videos and read her blog, which is fantastic and after I learned about this course, I can’t wait to start diginng!

Some of the things that I want to get from this course, is to find my own voice and my pack. I worked for many years in the corporate world as a designer and art director and the language and corporate environment is so unique and different from my “pet project” Woof Love, that I need to open up find my own voice, my own language, the one that comes to me naturally.

This course will also help me to get more followers, but not just for the sake of collecting “Likes” on Facebook or followers on Twitter, but to find My Pack, people who is really passionate about pets and animals.

Two things that I know getting more followers will help me with are:

1. Finding more people who need my help with the design of an identity that reflects their values and excitement about their business or organization.

2. To spread the word about good causes and adoption. I love to volunteer with small groups and create designs that make people to fall in love with their mission.

Isn’t it great? I can’t wait to meet other people in this course. It is always wonderful to have a pack of people like you who want to grow their business. If this sounds exciting to you, take this course. I am sure it is going to be great!

“This post is a part of the Double Your Followers blog tour to spread the word about April Bowles-Olin’s upcoming CreativeLive course. Does hearing the word ‘marketing’ make your armpits start to drip with anxiety? Citizend for a Breed Neutral Logo

Designing for a Good Cause: Citizens for a Breed Neutral. Reynoldsburg

September 9, 2014

Pit bull type dogs are good dogs. There are many misconceptions about the danger of having a dog like this at home. Some times this go to an extreme in some cities where they prohibit to own a pit bull. Pit bulls for Reynoldsburg is a group in Ohio that is fighting against Pit bull ban. They requested my help as a volunteer through the organization Creative Paw to design a logo to reflect their goals and to have an identity as a group.

Based on the information I received, I created a logo that represents any breed and to meet their goal to have a breed neutral law. The dogs in the logo stand out with a white silhouette against bright colors and the heart in the middle represents the Love and Compassion all breeds deserve.

"The goal of Pit Bulls for Reynoldsburg is to lobby City Council for a breed neutral law, educate people about the shortcomings of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL), and promote better alternatives."

The group needed a second logo/Illustration for a T-Shirt for citizens of Reynoldsburg (and other cities in the future) to wear as a walking billboard and create awareness of how Bad Laws Hurt Good Dogs. This is the logo/Illustration for the campaign.

Bad Laws Hurt Good Dogs

I initially created different options for the logo and they really liked them! The group kept all options to print on T-Shirts too and they opened an online store "in an effort to remove the ban in Reynoldsburg by purchasing merchandise from a new site called Freedom of Dog. Proceeds will go to legal fees to fight the ban in court as well as educational materials to promote awareness to local residents."

These are the different options for T-shirts and merchandise. If you want to help, you can purchase the products at this link.

It was a pleasure to design the logo and images for a good cause! Please support this group by sharing this post and leave a comment if Pit bulls face the same challenges in your city. If you want to share ideas with this group, please visit their Facebook page.
